A Guide For Your First Key West Vacation

Few places on earth are as breathtaking as taking in a Key West condo. Surrounded by pristine waters, tropical vegetation, and abundant sunshine, Key West can inspire and rejuvenate anyone who chooses to visit for the first time. With so many different recreational activities and historical landmarks to explore, your first trip to Key West is bound to be one full of adventure and relaxation. In this post, we will provide a guide of some of the best things to explore while in Key West, as well as give you an idea of what you can expect when visiting the southernmost point of the continental US.

What to Expect?

If you’re traveling during the winter season, expect beautiful blue skies and warm comfortable temperatures. After the rainy season has passed at the end of October, Key West’s weather is probably some of the best in the world allowing its visitors to enjoy beautiful Gulf and Atlantic waters where they can swim, paddleboard, kayak, or just bask in the sun on the many white-sand beaches of the island.

Key West has a very laidback and hospitable culture built off tourism and recreational activities. The island really has something to offer all ages. With a historic downtown district lined with amazing shops and great dining options, you will find yourself wandering the town taking in everything it has to offer.

Main Attractions

Hemingway Home and Museum

A National Historic Landmark, this home was the residence of the great American author Ernest Hemmingway from 1931-1939. Built in the French Colonial Style, this charming residence embodies Old Florida Architecture and is a must-see on your stop to Key West.

Equipped with the original furniture, this house represents Hemmingway’s style and gives you a glimpse into how the author lived during his stay in Key West during the 30s. Descendants of the many cats that lived there during Hemmingway’s time still roam the property today, making this a very unique and popular attraction.

Mallory Square

Mallory Square is the historic downtown district of Key West. It is where all the locals gather to catch up and is filled with great shops and restaurants. This historic district was Key West’s hub for social and commercial life in the early 1820s and still maintains the same charm and character to this day. With a wide variety of fun events throughout the fall and winter season, Mallory Square is the place to be after a relaxing day at the beach.

The Southernmost Point Landmark

The Southernmost point is an anchored concrete buoy that marks the southernmost point of the continental US. It used to be marked by a small sign until the city of Key West decided to build a concrete monument to commemorate the location. It is now a famous spot for tourists to take photos and should be visited when coming to Key West for the first time.
